Things To Do In Angel and Islington
Angel packs a theatre district, a canal, two markets and some of the best eating in North London into a few walkable streets. Our workshop is in the middle of it, on Arlington Way in Islington, so this is the list we give visitors who ask what else to do while they are here.
Make your own perfume
Our pick, admittedly. Spend an afternoon at the perfumer’s bench on Arlington Way, beside Sadler’s Wells. A perfumer guides you through a library of professional materials, and you leave with a bottle of eau de parfum you composed yourself — one nobody else will ever wear. Sadler’s Wells Theatre
Britain’s home of contemporary dance, on Rosebery Avenue — and the closest thing to a neighbour our workshop has. The programme changes constantly, so there is nearly always something on.
Camden Passage
The antiques and vintage lane just off Upper Street — dealers, jewellery, prints and a scattering of cafés. Busiest on market days, so check the current schedule before you travel.
Exmouth Market
A pedestrianised run of restaurants, bars and food stalls five minutes south of the workshop — the easiest place to eat before or after an afternoon at the bench.
The Regent’s Canal towpath
Pick up the canal near City Road Basin and walk west towards King’s Cross and Camden, or east towards Hackney — flat, quiet and one of the nicest walks in North London.
Screen on the Green
One of the oldest cinemas in the country, still running on Upper Street with sofas and a bar — a good rainy-afternoon fallback.
The Estorick Collection
A small, focused museum of modern Italian art in a Georgian house on Canonbury Square — twenty minutes north on foot and rarely crowded.
Chapel Market
A traditional London street market off Liverpool Road, a few minutes from Angel station. Opening days vary through the week, so it is worth checking before making a special trip.
Finding us
Our workshop is at 23 Arlington Way, London, EC1R 1UY, about eight minutes’ walk from Angel station on the Northern line and roughly fifteen from both Farringdon and King’s Cross St Pancras.
